December 1st, 2017 is the 93rd Anniversary of the Fire; it is also the 143rd Anniversary of our parish.
December 1st 1924
The fiery destruction of Emmanuel’s original church building on the night of December 1st, 1924, appears in William Ruting’s Steel Men and Wooden Ladders, a new history of the first sixty years of the La Grange Fire Department. Ruting, a thirty-year plus veteran of the La Grange Fire Department who retired as Fire Chief in 2004 created a dramatic collection of images and words about the tragic loss of the original church building consecrated in 1878 and the 1893 sanctuary and parish house.
